Observer: Heru Succeeds in Presenting a Just Solution

GMT Institute Public Policy Observer, Agustinus Tamtama Putera assesses that Jakarta's Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, has succeeded in presenting a just or win-win solution in dealing with situations that concern the lives of the people of Jakarta.

Principally, he offered a win-win solution for every problem

According to him, several appropriate steps were taken by the Acting Governor to resolve the problems of the former Kampung Susun Bayam (KSB) and compensate residents affected by the normalization of the Ciliwung River.

Even, fair solutions were also being prepared for the primary needs of Jakarta people, including a cheap staple food program, equal distribution of clean water services, provision of affordable housing for low-income residents, and so on.

Fithra Faisal: Jakarta Remains as Business and Economic Center

"Principally, he offered a win-win solution for every problem. Of course, it is the best for the residents and minimizes new problems in the future. For instance, relocating former residents of the Kampung Susun Bayam and compensating the profits of Rawajati residents affected by the normalization of the Ciliwung River, as well as providing cheap food to meet the needs of residents," he stated, Wednesday (5/22).

He explained he adopted many policies that were fundamentally for the good of society, although not populist.

"The policies taken do not pay too much attention to political aspects, but what is important is that the basic rights of Jakarta residents are guaranteed. It's like taking medicine, the impact is not immediate and the benefits are felt later," he explained.

He added the fundamental policy that is not populist is controlling the Family Identification Number (NIK). Population data is a basic thing often underestimated but is the main requirement for realizing equality and justice.

"Social assistance problems are not on target due to inconsistencies in population data, ineffective community services due to NIK problems where people no longer exist, and so forth. These are the pros and cons and there are pluses and minuses, right? There are. But if it's not regulated, when else can the repairs begin," he explained.

He asserted Jakarta today needs a leader who understands sustainable development, understands bureaucracy, works well, and is a firm figure who remains humble and friendly.

"In the future, Jakarta needs a technocrat, a bureaucrat, who is firm but can be friendly with all levels of society. Jakarta is transitioning to a global city, so it is important to talk about sustainable development," he closed.
